Alzinger Gruner Veltliner 'Loibenberg' Smaragd Wachau 2017
Alzinger’s 11 hectares of vines span some of Austria’s greatest growing sites, including Steinertal and Loibenberg. Fruit is whole-cluster crushed and sees short macerations, creating elegant wines of pristine quality. Fruit for ‘Loibenberg’ Gruner comes from south-facing slopes, creating a peppery, concentrated wine full of citrus and vegetal notes. Creamy texture is balanced by zesty acidity, making it a homerun bottle for a slew of dishes.
The land of Schwartzenegger and strudel delivers ethereal, electric whites along the Danube, but Grüner and Riesling aren't the whole story; its savory, mineral, lightweight reds can be revelatory.
