Charly Thevenet Regnie 'Grain & Granit' 2011

Founded in 2006, Charly Thevenet, son of infamous ‘Gang of Four’ member, Jean-Paul, creates his wines with the same hands-off mentality as his father, crafting wines from 80 year old vines in Régnié. ‘Grain & Granit’ is whole cluster fermented and vinified in cement; the 2011 is developing gorgeously, showing notes of red fruit, herbs, wet earth, and stones. Serve alongside the 2016 for a seriously interesting vertical!

Wine Type

The purplish grapey red of Beaujolais lately taken more seriously as a wine that punches above its weight. Perfectly fruity and yet in certain villages imbued with a stony mineral core.

Beaujolais, France

Considered part of Burgundy despite its more schistous, granite soils and its focus on Gamay. Key 'cru' villages such as Brouilly and Moulin-à-Vent show that lighter-weight reds can also be serious.
