Agostina Pieri Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Born in the Piancornello subzone of Montalcino, Pieri’s seven hectares of vines grow on steep slopes with optimal southern exposure, allowing the Sangiovese to reach an impeccably juicy ripeness. The grapes are then hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel, and oak-aged. Only the best fruit makes the cut for Pieri’s Brunello.

Italy’s most-planted red and one of its noblest: a Tuscan icon (Chianti Classico; Brunello) that wanders through many regions. Crisp cherry-scented with a woodsy savor; Italy’s answer to Pinot Noir.

Montalcino, Italy

Whereas Chianti and Montepulcino anchor Central Tuscany, the vintners of Montalcino, located further south, call Sangiovese 'Brunello' and take it in a bolder, brawnier, more ageworthy direction.
